Epoxy Resin Calculator

Calculate the amount of epoxy resin and hardener needed for your project based on dimensions.

Epoxy Resin Calculator Guide

Epoxy resin is a versatile material used for river tables, countertop coatings, art projects, floor coatings, and more. Calculating the right amount is critical — too little leaves gaps, too much wastes expensive material.

Volume Formula:
Volume (cubic inches) = Length × Width × Depth
Volume (gallons) = Cubic inches ÷ 231

Epoxy density: ~1 gallon = 231 cubic inches
Mix ratio: Usually 1:1 or 2:1 (resin:hardener)

Common Mix Ratios

Most epoxy systems use either a 1:1 or 2:1 resin-to-hardener ratio by volume. Always follow the manufacturer's specific ratio — incorrect mixing leads to improper curing.

Epoxy by Project Type

  • Flood coat: 1/8" thick — about 1.6 oz per sq ft
  • Seal coat: Very thin — about 0.8 oz per sq ft
  • Deep pour: 1-2" thick — calculate volume carefully
  • River table: Depends on void dimensions

How to Use

Enter the length, width, and depth of your pour area. Select the mix ratio. The calculator shows total volume needed and the breakdown of resin vs hardener.

Tips for Success

Always add 10% extra for waste and mixing cup residue. Pour in thin layers if using standard epoxy (deep pours require special slow-cure formulas). Work in a temperature-controlled environment (70-80°F ideal).

Cost Estimates

Quality epoxy resin costs $40-80 per gallon for tabletop/art grade and $25-50 per gallon for floor coating grade. Deep pour epoxy is typically more expensive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Calculate the volume (L×W×D in inches), convert to fluid ounces by multiplying by 0.554, then add 10% for waste.
1:1 means equal parts resin and hardener. 2:1 means two parts resin to one part hardener. Always follow the manufacturer ratio.
Standard table-top epoxy: 1/8" to 1/4" per layer. Deep pour epoxy: 1-2" per layer. Check product specifications.
Quality epoxy costs $40-80 per gallon for art/table grade and $25-50 for floor coating grade.
Bubbles come from mixing too vigorously, cold temperatures, or porous substrates. Use a heat gun or torch to remove them after pouring.
Most epoxy is tack-free in 12-24 hours and fully cured in 72 hours at room temperature.
